While many of today’s popular Christmas carols are of religious origin, the earliest carols, “were pagan songs, sung at the Winter Solstice celebrations.” Historians believe that church officials scheduled Christmas to coincide with the Winter Solstice celebrations in hopes that it would be more widely accepted. Pope Julius 1 is credited with assigning December 25th as the day to celebrate the Nativity back in the 4th century. However, it wasn’t until the 14th century that “carols” became popular in religious circles. 

My Christmas carol , “Room for Love”, uses Luke Chapter 2, Verse 7 for inspiration. “And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.”
